birth of eneloop

The name “eneloop” is derived from the words energy + Loop by a special project team set up in Year 2005.

eneloop was created in SANYO Japan by Mr Taishi Maeda in April 2005 when he understood from the survey that consumers are unhappy about the inconveniences of using rechargeable batteries.
In order to encourage consumers about the benefits of using rechargeable batteries in which it helps to create less waste to our Earth, Mr Maeda worked very hard in exploring every means and ways to create the First Ready to Use rechargeable battery in Year 2005.

Working towards SANYO’s Think Gaia vision, eneloop has then became the first Think Gaia energy product.

Historically, disposable and rechargeable batteries have their individual advantages, which were impossible to combine both into one. Having eneloop batteries is just like having the Best of Both Worlds.

Disposable batteries could be used immediately out of the package and could be stored for months or even years, without having to consider their self discharge.  Their ease of use was unbeatable, they could be used basically everywhere.  However, once empty, they had to be thrown away and a new battery had to be purchased. Moreover, the used disposable battery cannot be recycled and has caused more waste to the environment.

Rechargeable batteries are more beneficial to both the consumers and our Earth. It could be recharge up to hundreds of time. Not only it is environmentally friendly, it is also cost effective. By re-charging, the use of one battery could be multiplied.  This clear advantage however, was associated with some less appealing aspects.  Before usage, they had to be charged and once charged, they lose their energy rather fast.  So, frequent recharging or charging just before usage was necessary.
